Shared Notes: Why I'm Dropping Bear.app
The main reason I stuck with Bear.app for many years was the nesting tags feature. But Drafts.app has had that for some time too, so what is the point of Bear for me? The web content saving features aren’t for me either because I’ve got DEVONthink, which these days plays nicely on my iPad too.
I’ve postponed this decision several times because Bear is usually so reliable and easy, but no more. I could live with the recent unnecessary features it was cramming in, but the upgrade to Bear 2 or 2.2 seems to have made it susceptible to crashes. After experiencing that and an unpleasant support interaction, I had one foot out the door. Then I learned that the only regular backup option outside of the practical iCloud syncing was manual. And there was no versioning of individual notes. Both feet out the door now.
One very good thing about Bear is the ease with which one can move data in and out of it.
