Avatar and Profile Header on Social Media
Here are the images from which I pulled the avatar and banner that I am currently using on social media and this site.

1. “It can’t happen here”
Avatar: WPA poster, ca. 1936–1937, for a play by that title based on the Sinclair Lewis novel about fascism happening in the United States. The poster features a silhouette of Lady Liberty in blue against a white background. The red flame issuing from the gray torch she’s holding fills the top of the poster, almost angrily, perhaps recalling the torches of democracy’s fascist enemies. 2. “Books are weapons in the war of ideas”
Profile header: U.S. government poster, 1942, featuring an illustration of little Nazis burning books and a quote by Franklin D. Roosevelt on a book towering over them:
Books cannot be killed by fire. People die, but books never die. No man and no force can take from the world the books that embody man’s eternal fight against tyranny. In this war, we know, books are weapons.
